IP bandwidth management systems

Crucial information needed for the correct management of a network is the knowledge what subsribers do: what applications they use and at what time of the day. Such an information is very useful for planning service marketing adjusted to the subscribers' needs. It also helps to make conscious decisions about the deployment of new services. The monitoring of subscriber traffic can give the answer to the following questions:
  • How many subscribers use a given application?
  • How subscribers are interested in a given application during a day?
  • How big traffic is generated by each subsriber?
  • What applications use more bandwidth?
  • Who exceeds the assumed values (limits) or is a potential source of DoS attacks?
  • How big traffic is inside the network and how big traffic leaves the network?
  • In what direction (to or from the network) the traffic majority is transmitted?

The development of new broadband Internet access services increases competitiveness in the market. The operator must find a method to provide high quality services with high efficiency and especially profitability. It requires the reduction of the system maintenance cost as well as looking for methods which increase revenues from the possessed equipment. It is not possible to allow monitoring of the traffic, subscribers' behavior and each application without proper analytical tools.

IP service management system gives the insight into various aspects of the network traffic, showing behavior patterns of applications (what is the bandwidth used by the application, what is the direction of transmission) and subscribers. Thus, it is possible to define appriopriate policies optimizing bandwidth usage by subscribers and applications. It is also possible to match link costs with incomes from provided services and set up the right bandwidth access proportion for subscribers.

By using the service management system the operator can: > reduce Internet link costs due to bandwidth reduction without looosing subscribers' satisfaction, > optymize bandwidth usage by introducing limits in the periods of higher bandwidth requirement (night/day policy), > identify subscribers who load the network most and impose multilevel restrictions on them, > send information about bandwidth usage by a subscriber and extra payments (in case of established limit exceeding) to the billing system, > prioritize the traffic important from the subscriber's point of view, increasing his/her satisfaction without the need to invest in link bandwidth enlargement.
VECTOR offers turn-key solutions including hardware, software and service support, starting with design of the solution, implementation of the system, integration with customer's systems and network and ending with system maintenance and support during its normal operation. Thanks to experience and competence of the VECTOR staff we can create applications using the system for introduction new services in the operator network.
