Ethernet network building elements
Switches and media converters are used during Ethernet network deployment.
Switches are basic devices used in data transmission networks which make connections and direct the data packets to a proper port. The functionality of the switch is similar with the functionality of a concentrator. The difference between them is that the packet transmission in the switch is from the transmitting station to a defined receiving station and not to all stations as for the concentrator. Switches reduce the network traffic.
The switch can work in one of the two modes: "cut-through" or "store&forward" . The ""cut-through"" mode offers efficient work by immediate sending the packets to the destination port. The "store&forward" mode reads the whole frame, check its correctness and then sends it out to the destination port. This mode is less efficient, but minimizes the transmission error number due to the frame checking.
The VECTOR offer includes non-manageable and manageable switches of the 2 layer, of higher layers and backbone switches. Non-manageable switches are used for network solutions deployed in non-complicated environments. Manageable switches of the 2 layer, thanks to specialized functions of network resources control and remote configuration and management, can be used for the separation of safe VLANs in the network. A group of the switches can be used in applications for audio/video transmission with higher priority. This feature is used by higher layer switches, which are a perfect solution for multimedia environments or real-time priority transmissions. The higher layer switches allow the Multicast traffic control and help to use the available bandwidth in a very efficient way.
Media converters allow the connection of the networks networks with various transmission media. They increase the transmission range and accelerate the Ethernet network operation by using optical fiber cables.
The VECTOR offer includes Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet media converters and converters which implement switching functions or multichannel Ethernet media converters. These devices work with various connectors: SC, ST or VF-45, supporting single- and multimode optical fibers.
