First deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 in Lithuania

VECTOR together with INIT, one of the biggest Lithuanian telecom operators, has introduced for the first time in Lithuania the Arris C4® cable modem controller and has deployed the fast data transmission system based on the DOCSIS 3.0 standard.

The INIT company has been present on the Lithuanian market since 1990. The operator offers services in the area of cable TV, Internet access, analog and digital TV and VoIP. INIT offers the modern services using the latest technological solutions and tailors them to the increasing needs of subscribers.

Responding for the needs of the Lithuanian operator, VECTOR has proposed the solution based on the ARRIS technology – the C4® cable modem controller. The device has very high efficiency and reliability – both features increase the subscribers’ satisfaction with the offered services.

The C4® controller has an additional advantage – it is possible to fit the transmission system to the business needs of the operator. Vitautas Valutis, the Director of the INIT IT Department, said: "The solution allows for flexible development in the future. It is particularly important on the competitive market of electronic media which dictates continuous investment in the network development. The advantage of the device is also a broad package of configuration options and the possibility of the quality control for offered services".

The solution allows deploying the DOCSIS 3.0 standard in a fast and flexible manner, which was also the case of INIT. "The deployment of the DOCSIS 3.0 standard gives us the possibility to offer the Internet access services up to 120 Mb/s. The new standard allows us to decrease the operational expenditures due to lower power consumption and higher density, efficiency and scalability of the solution. The deployment of the DOCSIS 3.0 standard surely will increase the competitiveness of our company on the market", said Vitautas Valutis.

The Lithuanian operator has begun the cooperation with VECTOR also due to the VECTOR’s experience with earlier deployments of data transmission systems in Poland.
